The String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) is a flowering succulent plant native to South Africa. It is a hardy and easy to care for houseplant with spherical bright green leaves, that grow clustered closely in a trailing nature. It sprouts white, small cinnamon scented flowers once a year, even when kept indoors. Other common names for this plant are String of Beads, Rosary plant, String of Marbles and String of Peas. Often grown in hanging baskets, this plant is best hung near a window, or placed on a windowsill or shelf. With proper care and light these plants will grow quickly and can reach upwards of 8ft in length.
This evergreen succulent does best in direct sunlight or very bright indirect light, like in a North-facing window. Drought tolerant, Senecio plants are easy to care for and should be left to dry out between waterings. Avoid getting water on the foliage, and be sure the soil is dry before thorough waterings.
