Marimo Moss Ball
Marimo Moss Balls are ornamental moss balls that grow naturally in Japan, Northern Europe, and many other areas, and they take 4 to 5 years to grow to their current size! The moss balls generate oxygen and remove nitrates, improving water quality.
The lakes in which Marimo are naturally found are cold in temperature, so Marimo do best in cooler water (water temperature no higher than 76° F). Brown spots may form on your Marimo if their water is too warm. If you find your water gets too warm during the hotter months, you can give your Marimo a “vacation” by putting it in a water-filled container in your refrigerator for up to 24 hours at a time.
Please note: All Marimo sold from our supplier is responsibly collected and put through a rigorous quarantine process to ensure safety and quality. All incoming Marimo shipments are inspected and cleared by DFW/USDA before receiving them. Upon arrival, our supplier quarantines and treat all of the Marimo for a minimum of two weeks, to fully eradicate any pests, including zebra mussels. This includes a saltwater bath that kills any “hitchhikers” that may be attached without causing any harm to the plant.
